During the recent Knights of Columbus' 137th Supreme Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota the  Supreme Knight Carl Anderson spoke to fellow members and highlighted the achievements from the past fraternal year and announced new initiatives for the Order.  Again, the following three issues were part of that presentation by the Supreme Knight.

KNIGHTS DONATE $2.7 MILLION IN DISASTER RELIEF
“’Knights don’t just step up in ordinary times. Our courage comes to the fore in extraordinary moments — especially in times of trial. …  It is a powerful reminder that when disaster strikes, the Knights of Columbus strike back with service.’

Stories include:

FAITH IN ACTION
‘“St. John Paul II told us, ‘A new state of affairs … calls with a particular urgency for the action of the lay faithful.’  We cannot run away or stand on the sidelines. We must do our part.’

Our part includes programs on:

KNIGHTS RESPOND TO CRISIS IN CHURCH WITH THE HEART OF A PRIEST
‘As we strive to renew our Church, we must remember that renewal starts within our own hearts.  That message was brought across the United States this year through our nationwide relic tour of the incorrupt heart of St. Jean Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests.’

More information on the #HeartofaPriest pilgrimage:

        • 300,000 people venerated the relic in 99 dioceses.
        • More than 7,500 miles covered.
        • The Order is continuing the tour in Canada in the new fraternal year.”

KNIGHTS JUMPED INTO ACTION IN RESPONSE TO UNPRECEDENTED FLOODING IN THE CORNHUSKER STATE
By Joseph Pappalardo  (5/1/2019)
Traffic was light on Highway 77 as John Gibney cruised through Fremont, Neb. There was still a risk, however, that his boat would hit one of the many obstacles hidden by floodwaters, which had turned the road into a lake; then, the firefighters he was ferrying would have needed rescuing themselves.

“It was almost like an inland hurricane here,” recalled Gibney, a member of Philip Sheridan Council 1497 in Fremont, about 40 miles northwest of Omaha. “The further west you got, they were getting a snowstorm like crazy, and over here, we were getting rain.”
