Did you know this about the IW Knights of Columbus?
The Knights of Columbus sponsor a number of web sites which are associated with our central site – KofC.org. One site which is both inspirational and educational is named: FathersForGood.org.
One of the sections of that web site is entitled “Why Fathers Count” and it begins by stating: “There is a category in social science called ‘father absence’. The absence of a father is known to researchers to be a significant factor in the success or failure of children. The fact is, fathers make a huge and irreplaceable difference in the lives of their children in terms of education, income, abuse, mental and physical health, drug use, sexual activity, pregnancy and almost every other social indicator.”
Of course, most Knights of Columbus are fathers but whether a father is a knight or not the following thoughts from the site are worth reading and contemplating.
- “A Father is … a work in progress. Indeed, a dad’s work is never done – in what he can learn from his family and what he can teach his children, in the sacrifices he can make and the rich rewards he can be given, in the love he can live out and also receive”.
- “A Father is … called by God the Father. This is the vocation that is the foundation of fatherhood. Of course, no earthly father will be like “our Father who art in heaven,” but God does give certain graces to fathers who seek him out and follow his way”.
- “A Father is … an ordinary man who is called and equipped to do extraordinary things from day to day – work, provide, protect, pray, get involved with his family and be there as an example for his children and faithful to his wife”.
